COVINGTON, Tenn. — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation identified the man who was shot and killed in a Covington driveway early Wednesday morning.

According to reports, at least eight shots rang out in the 700 block of Hill Avenue near Highway 51 around 1 a.m. Wednesday morning. Shortly after that, Trell Travis Terry was found shot to death in a driveway.

The 23-year-old was a father of three and had another on the way.

A neighbor told us she heard around eight gun shots at the house next door.

“Everybody was like, somebody got shot over here,” she said.

While on the scene, officers could be seen searching a red four-door truck surrounded by crime scene tape. It was behind that truck that the victim was reportedly found dead.

It wasn’t long until relatives of the victim also showed up looking for answers.

“Somebody came up, knocked on my door and told me my nephew was on the ground,” a family member said. “Nobody knows what happened.”

Covington Police Chief Buddy Lewis says there was a shooting in the same location a few weeks prior to this one where four people were injured.

He doesn’t know if this shooting is connected, or it is gang-related.

“In this country, gang violence happens in a lot of places. But, yes, we have had issues in this neighborhood,” Lewis said.

A motive for the shooting was not released nor was a suspect taken into custody.

Four people from inside that home were taken in for questioning, but they were all released.

If you know anything that could help, call police.
