1 killed, 4 injured in shooting at party
ROCKFORD — A large overnight party ended in violence Sunday morning when one person was fatally shot and four others were injured, police said. The identity of the deceased, a 31-year-old man, has not been released and no arrests have been made.
Shortly after 5:30 a.m. patrol officers from the Rockford Police Department were called to a residence in the 400 block of Howard Avenue in response to a shooting. When they arrived, officers learned that a large party had been taking place at the residence when shots were fired.
In addition to the man who died at the scene, two men and two women all in their 20s, were transported to local hospitals for serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said.
Sunday’s fatal shooting is the fifth homicide to occur in Rockford this year and the latest in a string of deaths being investigated by area law enforcement.
