SPRINGFIELD, MO – Police say two people were killed and two others were injured in a shooting early Thursday morning at a Springfield home.
Lt. Mark Schindler, with the Springfield Police Department, said officers were dispatched to 906 E. Locust St. just before 12:30 a.m. for reports of gunshots.
When officers arrived, one deceased person was found at the scene, Schindler said.
There were also others who had been shot, but Schindler said he could not release how many.
“That’s all I can tell you is more than one,” Schindler said.
At 1:30 a.m., Schindler said he could not comment on whether anyone had been arrested in the case, what led up to the shooting or give specifics about the injuries suffered.
Later Thursday morning, Police Chief Paul Williams posted on social media that two people were deceased and two others were injured.
“Stay clear of the area,” he posted. “No suspect information yet. Details as they become available.”
Police spokeswoman Jasmine Bailey said more news was expected later in the morning.
At 1:30 a.m., at least nine patrol cars were still on scene, and police had several houses surrounded by crime scene tape.
Kevin Dalton lives around the corner from where the shooting occurred.
He said he arrived home just after 12:30 a.m. to find police lights flashing throughout the neighborhood.
“I had no idea what was going on at the time,” Dalton said.
Dalton said his brother was home at the time of the shooting and heard yelling and what sounded like fireworks.
“I’m mad,” Dalton said. “I’m tired of it. I’m tired of stuff like this going on.”
