BROOKLYN, NY – A torrent of gunfire outside a Brooklyn apartment complex killed an 18-year-old man and wounded four others late Wednesday, authorities said.

The violence exploded minutes before midnight when the gunmen opened fire on the victims outside the Marcus Garvey Apartments in Brownsville.

Medics rushed an 18-year-old teenager who was shot in the stomach to Brookdale Hospital where he died. His name was withheld as police work to notify the teen’s family.

A 21-year-old man shot in the head remains in critical condition at Brookdale Hospital. Two additional 21-year-old men were taken to Kings County Hospital and a 20-year-old man went to Brookdale Hospital.

The victims were treated for more minor gunshot wounds and are in stable condition.

About two hours after the shooting, a group of 15 young people, including a young woman mourning the loss of her brother, were congregated outside the emergency entrance to Brookdale Hospital when a man in the passenger seat of a dark colored car headed east on Linden Blvd. began to chide the group. “Ahaha,” the man yelled.

Several men immediately broke into a sprint towards the heckler. “That’s the car! That’s the same motherf—er with the white durag!” a man said as he began to give chase. Other members of the group loaded into a caravan of cars and ran through two red lights in fast pursuit of the dark colored vehicle tearing down Linden Blvd.

One man was livid as he returned from the failed chase. “They violated me!” he screamed. “I swear to god I’m gonna kill somebody.” Detectives were still making sense of the chaos early Thursday as they investigated three crime scenes spanning three adjacent blocks along Bristol St., Dumont Ave. and Chester St.

“It sounded like there was a whole bunch of shooting,” said Linda Appolon, 35, who was parking her car on her way home from her nursing job when she heard the shots.

“Then, two seconds go by, and there was a whole bunch of shooting again.”

Police believe all of the victims were shot on Bristol St., where at least 14 shell casings lay strewn about the asphalt. Two of the victims fled to Dumont Ave. shortly after the shooting, cops said.
