CHICAGO, IL – Five people were shot and wounded Sunday night in the Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.

About 10:55 p.m., the group was gathered outside in the 7400 block of South Dante Avenue after some had taken part in a weekly softball game, according to Chicago police. Someone in a black van pulled up and opened fire into the crowd.

One man was shot multiple times in his chest and back, police said. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition.

A 40-year-old woman was struck in her calf and was in good condition at the same hospital, police said. A 30-year-old man was struck in his ankle and a 42-year-old man was hit in his arm. Their conditions had stabilized at University of Chicago.

A 26-year-old man was shot in his leg and was taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where his condition stabilized, according to police.

Area Central detectives were investigating the shooting.
