COLUMBUS – Police say two adults and two children were injured in a shooting after a party at Weinland Park just north of downtown Columbus.

The shooting happened just before 9:45 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of Summit Street. Detectives say between 150 -200 people were attending the Short North Reunion when shots were fired.

“At least a dozen,” said Matt Roper, who lives across the street from the park and was home at the time of the shooting. “I just kind heard gunshots going off. And I was like — those aren’t fireworks.”

A 5-year-old girl was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital with a wound to the leg. The other three victims, including a 10-year-old girl who was shot in the elbow, were treated at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Police identified the two adult victims as Cavaris Mills, 29 and Keveante Smoot, 26. They are all expected to be OK.

Authorities said there were about 150-200 people at the party and officers were only able to identify three people willing to give a witness statement.

Police do not have any suspect information at this time.

Anyone with information about this is asked to call Det. Scott Polgar at 614-645-0114 or Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
