1 dead, 4 shot in night club

HAZLEHURST, MS (Mississippi News Now) – One person is dead and seven more people shot in an overnight shooting that happened in Hazlehurst early Sunday morning.

Dariendejuan Fells and Odarius Black are charged with the murder of 26-year-old Jonathan Miller. According to Hazlehurst Police Chief Swilly, Miller was shot and killed at a bar and nightclub called Tootsie’s Spot.

The 2 Lincoln County men are also charged with aggravated assault for shooting 7 additional people

Six of the injured have since been released from the hospital and one is in stable condition. Police responded to the club on Monticello Street at around 2:53 am.

Eight shots were fired inside the building by the suspects, who police say were recklessly shooting in the building. Warrants have been issued for the suspects, identified as 23-year-old Dariendejuan “Daquan” Fells and 21-year-old Odarius Black.

They believe both are from the Brookhaven/Lincoln County area. They aren’t sure which of those two are the actual shooter, or if both shot.

They’ll be charged with murder and 7 counts of aggravated assault.

No exact motive has been determined, but police believe the incident began with a fight. This is an ongoing investigation.
