MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Two people were killed and five others — including an 11-year-old girl — were injured Friday night after a gunman fired into a crowd gathered outside a convenience store in northwest Miami-Dade County.

Detective Lee Cowart, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade County Police Department, said the shooting happened around 9:15 p.m. outside the Heat Food Mart in the 5800 block of Northwest 27th Avenue.

Paramedics transported Corey Davis Jr., 26, and Vickie Boggs, 56, to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, where both victims died from gunshot wounds.

Two of the injured — including the girl — were grazed by bullets. The others were hurt in the confusion after the shooting.

“They may have been wounded with, you know, broken glass or after the shooting, trying to escape from the scene,” Cowart said.

Police identified the injured as Vandella Davis, 34, Latresha Knight, 35, Romario Louider, 29, and Tyrone Smith, 56. The 11-year-old girl was not named by police.

Cowart said police did not know what sparked the violence, but he said a large group of people was gathered outside the store before the shooting. Folding chairs, bicycles, a cooler and other debris were left at the scene as police investigated.

Police said they did not have any information about the gunman or gunmen.

“We are searching for suspects. We do not have anybody in custody at this time. However, we have not developed a description of the subject or subjects in this case,” Cowart said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Miami-Dade County Police Department at 305-471-2400 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.

“It’s terrible, and the youngest one treated at the scene was 11 years old. Nobody deserves that. The gun violence has to stop,” Cowart said. “We’re asking for the community’s assistance, of course, in this. They can call the homicide bureau directly. We’d appreciate any kind of input from the community.”
