NEW ORLEANS — Five people are in hospitals after they were shot early Tuesday on St. Claude Avenue. The shooting was reported after 12:30 a.m. in the 3200 block of St. Claude Avenue.

New Orleans police said officers found three victims with gunshot wounds. The three people were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Investigators said two additional victims who were shot were found at another hospital. All five victims are being treated for gunshot wounds.

In an update Tuesday morning, New Orleans police investigators said the victims were on the block when they heard gunfire coming from the Piety Street area. They then realized they had been shot.

Additional information about the victims was not released.
