OAKLAND — Four people attending a vigil in West Oakland Sunday night were wounded in a drive-by shooting, authorities said Monday.

The four victims, a 54-year-old woman and three men, ages 29, 36 and 41, are expected to recover from their wounds.

The shooting happened about 11:05 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of 24th and Chestnut streets.

Authorities said Monday the four were among a group attending a vigil for a neighborhood resident who died from natural causes earlier in the week.

While the people stood on the street a vehicle drove by and at least one occupant began shooting at them, wounding the four. The vehicle took off before police arrived.

Two of the victims got their own transportation to a hospital while the other two were taken by ambulance to a hospital. All were in stable condition Monday.

Police are trying to determine a motive for the shooting and who may have been an intended target.
