OAKLAND — A man and woman died from gunshot wounds and two other people were wounded after someone opened fire on their car as they drove in East Oakland Thursday night, police said Friday.

The names of the 21-year-old woman and 19-year-old man who were killed were not released.

Nor were the names of the woman and man, both 18, who were wounded.

The shooting happened about 11 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of 73rd and Bancroft avenues, across the street from the Eastmont Town Center and police substation.

Police said the four people were in a car driving northbound on 73rd possibly headed toward a restaurant.

As they were driving someone from outside began shooting at them, hitting all four people.

The car continued across the intersection and crashed.

The four were taken to a hospital where the man and woman died early Friday.  The conditions of the other two victims were not available.

Some other cars were hit by the gunfire but no one else was injured, police said. Police are trying to determine a motive for the shooting and have not made any arrests.
