SOUTH BEND, IND. (WNDU) – Six people were taken to the hospital following a shooting in South Bend. South Bend police say it all started early this morning when a party got out of hand.

It happened just before 1:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Dayton St. South Bend Police said none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening. The ages of the victims varies from 17-35.

Neighbors say there has been an increasing amount of gun violence lately. Back in January, six gunshots were fired into a home with children in it, on East Fox Street.

This shooting happened less than a mile from the shooting that happened on Sunday morning. One neighbor says he has even dealt with teenagers threatening him with guns.

Another neighbor says someone shot her house recently. One resident was troubled saying, “There are two schools and two churches within a baseball throw from where it happened.”

That same neighbor says the response to Sunday morning’s shooting was just overwhelming. He saw more police officers this morning than in the time he’s lived here.
