WARTBURG (WATE) – A Morgan County man has been charged in connection with a shooting that left four people injured Sunday night in Wartburg.

Court documents show Jerry W. Bell is charged with four counts of aggravated assault and one count of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

The shooting was reported Sunday night at Sunnyside Apartment Complex on Kingston Street. A former police officer said he was standing in the parking lot when he saw Bell leave his apartment and shoot Jacob Kimbro, 19.

Police say he then went into an apartment and shot Jason Stover. Two other people, Timothy Armos and Nicholas Cooper, both 30, came in just after and were able to disarm Bell, but during the struggle another shot was fired that grazed both Armos and Cooper. The bullet went through the ceiling and into the apartment upstairs.

“I was going to go outside and sit on the steps and watch my son play. When I heard the gunshots, I shut my door and I slammed it,” said witness Martina Needham, “It was scary. What if he was outside and would’ve got shot? Or what if the other kids are outside and they got shot? It could’ve been a whole lot worse than what it was.”

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says Bell is a resident of the apartment complex.

Kimbro and Stover were both taken to the hospital and released. Armes and Cooper’s wounds were not serious and both refused medical treatment.
